Full Moon

Last night as we were leaving for tap, Jack & Maddie couldn't believe how big & bright the moon looked. I couldnt believe the sky was clear!! We've had such cloudy days recently, I've missed seeing beyond the overcast. They were full of questions about the moon...is it a planet?, are those really craters you see? we had a long q&a on our 10 minute drive. I need to brush up on my astronomy.

We definately thought the star to the left wasnt really a star, but a planet. I did a little reading & found out that Mars will be just left of the moon tonight & it will look very bright & red too.

So tonight for the stargazers/skywatchers out there..around sunset the moon will appear the largest & we will have the biggest, brightest full moon of 2010. I cant wait to bundle up & hope for clear skies again!!

Stuck up a Tree..call 911

Today when we left violin lessons, we saw a fire truck with it's siren blaring, racing down the street. Without any doubt in her mind..Maddie says, "..someone must be stuck in a tree!" Love the 4 year old thoughts of the day:)

She & Him & Other Stuff..

I have been working on a very cool purple knitted sweater for someone little...Maddie isnt really excited about it, but I love the pattern & am hoping that she will like it when it's complete.

Yesterday we celebrated John's 37th bday. The kids & I worked hard on a yummy birthday cake..chocolate cake with peppermint buttercream icing...hmmmm, not much left. I love making bday cakes!

Love this song..M Ward & Zooey Deschanel; "She & Him" is their group. Very 60's sound..she looks & sounds like a young Loretta Lynn.

Snow Day!

After a beautiful snowfall yesterday, the kids were excited to hear that there was no school this morning Thank goodness for playgroup...I wasnt feeling up to staying home inside..all day today. It's too cold to go sledding..the windshield must be really low because Jack & Maddie didnt stay out there long when we got back from pg. Usually they are happy shoveling snow & playing, but too cold today. I think I'm good for maybe one more big snowfall, but then I may need medication to get thru the winter:0 Looking at beach rentals is my medication right now.

More snow..

I'm trying to keep positive about the snowy cold weather we're having so far this year. Today I heard that more snow is headed to Ohio....maybe 3- 5". It can be hard when just running errands requires at least 3 or 4 layers & I'm still cold! I'm trying to get the perfect windshield face cover for our walks to school. Right now I am using a "kerchief" that I knitted a few years back. Would a ski mask be inappropriate?? Why not for the whole family...I can imagine all of us now streaking down the sidewalks like bank robbers:) My vanity is slowly disappearing with age:)

Eatin more Veggies

Recently as I blog-surfed from www.soulemama.com to http://hipmountainmamablog.com/one-small-change/ , I discovered a very cool challenge to "make one small change" each month leading up to Earth Day to help our environment. My goal coincides with my decision this Thanksgiving to go vegetarian. I hope to continue down this road & surprisingly John is giving it a try ...maybe longer than a month. Jack is not much of a meat eater unless he smells bacon:) So 3 of us are up for the "small change."

I get a daily email from Sierra Club & interestingly enough today's email discussed eating less meat & the benefits our world could get from just that. quoting sierra club.."if you refrain from eating meat just one day a week, you'll save as many emissions as you would driving 1,000 fewer miles this year."

New Things Around the House..

Now that we've settled back into home..we're all discovering & trying out new toys. Maddie's new favorite is definitely her American Girl Doll...who has a new outfit for every occasion:) Jack & her both are loving the wooden puppets (dragon & princess) that Aunt Adeana found on her last trip to Europe. I find myself staring at the dragon flying in his room...very cool. I started my first Spanish lesson on Rosetta Stone & John is excited about his new recorder for music. Bond & the kitties are sleeping alot & trying to stay warm. They are southern animals...yano:)

I caught Bond sleeping on my bed this morning. He got a new collar from Santa & was able to stay at Bed & Breakfast for dogs while we were in NC. When I called to check on him, the lady I spoke with said he had made friends with another dog that lives there year round, Choco. They were sleeping on the office futon all day together. I wonder if they miss each other.
