Poem share...

Our bookclub bk this month is "Gossip of the Starlings" by Nina de Gramont (a NC writer:) I didn't realize the title was a Shel poem until it was mentioned in reading. Sure enough it's from a poem entitled "Forgotten Language." I love the line about the conversation with a housefly in bed. A sweet little poem that reminded me to never grow up or at least stop & listen, soak it all in more often.

Forgotten Language (from "where the sidewalk ends") by Shel Silverstein

Once I spoke the language of the flowers,
Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,
Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,
And shared a conversation with the housefly
in my bed.
Once I heard and answered all the questions
of the crickets,
And joined the crying of each falling dying
flake of snow,
Once I spoke the language of the flowers. . . .
How did it go?
How did it go?

Shel Silverstein
